Using Medicare

Medicare gives a rebate for up to 10 counselling sessions each calendar year if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

  1. Book a longer appointment with your GP and ask for a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
  2. Ask your GP to address the referral to Steve Lanham at Instinct Psychology.
  3. Send or bring the referral before your first session.

You need the referral before your first session to claim a rebate. Until a referral is in place, sessions are charged at the full fee.

After you pay, the Medicare claim is lodged for you and the rebate goes to your bank account.

Cancellations

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change an appointment. You can do this with the link in your appointment email or by emailing me. Late cancellations are charged 50% of the session fee. Medicare does not rebate cancellation fees.
